Are you a professional real estate agent? You know that both buyers and sellers rely on you as their go-to source for advice and referrals. After all, you're really good at your job, and you know the local market you represent. And when it comes to selling or buying a home, you’re not just dealing with the house itself; you're overseeing one of the largest purchases your clients will ever make in a season fraught with emotional and logistical challenges.

It Takes a Village to Sell A Home

Picture this: your client needs a safe place to store their belongings until closing day. Who do you recommend? What about trash pick-up in their new neighborhood? Or when they’re looking for a local contractor to fix a leaky faucet before the inspection? These are things that you, a real estate professional, get asked every single day. And it’s your knowledge and connections that truly make a difference.

But how do you go about creating such a network? How do you ensure that you’re connecting your clients to trustworthy professionals who can get the job done right?

Well, as dramatic as neighborhood social media sites can sometimes be (we all know the kind of posts that get a little... heated), they actually serve as an excellent resource for information. Think about it: years ago, neighbors gathered in cul-de-sacs, sipping coffee and gossiping about Helen’s irascible dachshund, the spike in county taxes, and, oh yes—did you hear that the Shriebsters just replaced their windows? They loved their contractor! That’s the kind of real-time intel that you, as a real estate agent, can tap into through online communities.

Building relationships with local businesses and service providers will give you trusted colleagues who will help both you and your clients. If vendors do good work and have a strong reputation, let them know you’ll refer them to your clients. In return, ask if they will offer a discount to your clients during special promotions or with a coupon. Make it your business to know – through the Better Business Bureau, social media groups, online forums, and local lore – which businesses are professional and reliable, and establish partnerships that benefit you, your clients and the community.

So, remember, when it comes to selling or buying a home, it really does take a village. And you, as the trusted real estate agent, are the glue that holds it all together. You’ve got the knowledge and expertise; now it's about tapping into your network and building that web of trusted connections that ensures your clients have all their questions answered.

The village is yours to create—build it strong, build it well, and your clients will remember the value you brought to their home-buying or home-selling experience for years to come.
